Cookie Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-09

Most companies bury this in legalese. Here it is in one sentence: Keychat does not use cookies, fingerprinting, advertising IDs, or any tracking technology, on this website or in the extension.

On mykeychat.com

This site is a static marketing page rendered by Next.js. It sets no cookies and contains no analytics scripts, no advertising pixels, and no third-party trackers. The only data your browser sends to our server is the standard HTTP request needed to fetch a page (URL, user agent, IP), and standard server logs may retain that transiently for security purposes only.

We do not embed Google Fonts hot from google.com (fonts are self-hosted via Next.js), do not embed YouTube videos, and do not load any iframe from a third party that could set cookies on our behalf.

In the Keychat browser extension

The extension does not set cookies. It does store data locally on your device using:

  • OPFS (Origin Private File System) — encrypted local message database (your messages, encrypted at rest by the XMTP libxmtp engine).
  • localStorage — UI preferences such as the active theme, the connected wallet address, and small WalletConnect session state when you choose that wallet.
  • chrome.storage.local — small key-value cache used by the extension for ENS lookups and link previews you have already viewed.

None of this leaves your device. You can wipe everything at any time from Settings → Storage inside the extension or by uninstalling the extension and clearing site data in chrome://extensions.

Third parties that might set cookies (when you use them)

When you click Connect wallet, the wallet you choose runs in a separate context (extension popup, mobile app, or a hosted page) and may set its own cookies according to its privacy policy. We have no visibility into and no control over that. Examples: MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, WalletConnect / Reown.

Changes

If we ever add analytics or another technology that touches your device, this page will be updated and a clear opt-in banner will appear in the extension before anything is enabled. Privacy is the product.
